PostNord Sweden

PostNord AB is a postal service provider that primarily serves the Nordic countries. The company was created on June 24, 2009, as a result of the merger of Danish and Swedish postal service providers, namely Post Danmark A/S and Posten AB. In 2011, the company changed its name to PostNord.

The roots of Posten AB can be traced back to 1636, during the regency government of Queen Christina, when regulations for postal services were established. Before this, the government and the church handled the transmission of letters. From the 1650s to the 1670s, postal services in Sweden were briefly operated by private monopolies. However, from 1677 until the end of the 20th century, postal services were provided under a state-controlled monopoly. The monopoly was eventually abolished in 1993, leading to a more open postal market in Sweden.
